Guv VP Badnore holds review meeting

Chandigarh: A review meeting to check the status of grievances received during the Open House was held under the chairmanship of VP Singh Badnore, Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator on Thursday. Parimal Rai, Adviser to the Administrator and senior officers of Chandigarh Administration was present. During the Open House held on May 22, 43 complaints were received from different strata of the society like individuals from fields of education, health, representatives of welfare associations, freedom fighters and villagers of periphery of Chandigarh. The UT Administrator has directed the officials to upgrade the facilities at veterinary dispensaries of Chandigarh. He also reviewed and appreciated the work done for the cleaning and upkeep of all choes by the Municipal Corporation and Engineering Department. He has also asked the concerned HOD’s to resolve the future grievances in a stipulated time and to the satisfaction of the complainant.

Min assures rice millers of resolving their issues

Chandigarh: Assuring vociferous flagging of State’s rice millers’ issues, Punjab Food and Civil Supplies Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu on Thursday said that he would definitely take up their issues with the Central Government as well as the Food Corporation of India (FCI). Ashu, during a meeting with the representatives of the rice millers’ associations, assured that he would defend the interest of the state and the rice millers as well. He promised time-bound solution to all their grievances and demands pertaining to the State Government and its procurement agencies.

MC Commissioner issues directions

Chandigarh: The Commissioner of Municipal Corporation Chandigarh, KK Yadav directed the Chief Fire Officer-cum-Additional Commissioner on Thursday to conduct awareness campaign among the general public in order to make them aware about how to act in case of an emergency. He instructed them to ensure fire-fighting and safety measures in accordance with the National Building Code of India in all the buildings throughout the city. The department has conducted survey/inspection of around 130 commercial buildings of the city in order to ascertain the adequacy or contravention of fire-fighting and safety measures.

Haryana Dept invites applications 

Chandigarh: Haryana Town and Country Planning Department has invited applications for grant of licence for setting up of Affordable Group Housing Colony under Affordable Group Housing Policy, 2013 for newly carved out sectors in the Final Development Plan Faridabad-2031-AD. A spokesman said that the application for seeking licence should be submitted on the prescribed form and complete in all respect with reference to provisions of the Haryana Development and Regulations of Urban Areas Act, 1975 and rules framed there under.

Thapar ranks in QS World Univ ranking

Chandigarh: Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (TIET) is ranked in the 801-1000 bracket among the 1011 institutions ranked globally in the world’s leading and most comprehensive QS World University Rankings. TIET performance is in the top 79% with citations per faculty being the strongest indicator for TIET. QS Rankings focuses on six prominent key parameters including academic reputation (40%), employer reputation (10%), faculty student (20%), citations per faculty (20%), international faculty (5%) and international students (5%).

WBFI organises workshop

SAS Nagar: Wheelchair Basketball Federation of India (WBFI) in partnership with Punjab State Institute of Sports conducted 2-day workshop on Wheelchair Basketball at Sector 78, Multipurpose Indoor BB stadium, Mohali. The goal of the workshop was to train the first set of players and coaches from Punjab for the long-term development of the sport amongst the people with disabilities in India. Ajit Kumar Shukla and Mohmd Latief Bhat, experienced wheelchair basketball player were the coach for the camp.  22 Men and around 2 women participated in the workshop.

49.26 lakh quintals sugar produced

Chandigarh: The sugar industry in Haryana has produced record 49.26 lakh quintals of sugar by crushing 497.96 lakh quintals of sugarcane in 2017-18. Minister of State for Cooperation, Manish Grover, said that sugar produced by 11 sugar mills of the state had broken all previous records logging an increase of 10.01 per cent.  The sugarcane recovery percentage which is directly related to the economic condition of farmers has also surpassed neighboring states like UP and Punjab. About 80 per cent of dues of farmers have been directly remitted into their accounts, said Grover.

YMCA releases admission schedule

Chandigarh: YMCA University of Science and Technology, Faridabad has released its admission schedule for the session 2018. The admission information brochure with complete details of admission process was released by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Kumar at his office. The brochure includes admission guidelines for online application form, courses details, eligibility criteria for different courses, fee structure and various proformas required during the admission process. The highlight of the new session is introduction of six new academic courses in Engineering, Science and Management stream at undergraduate level from ensuing academic session commencing in July. The brochure will be available from June 11 at University Campus and can also be downloaded from University website www.ymcaust.ac.in.

Vector borne disease control programme held

Chandigarh: A regional review meeting of malaria and other vector borne diseases was organised in Chandigarh with participation of programme officers from 15 states/UTs, representatives of various civic bodies and Associations like IMA etc.  The basic objective of this meeting was to discuss the state implementation plan of malaria and other vector borne diseases for the year 2018-2019. Consultations among various stakeholders will strengthen strategic implementation of programme components. Strengthening of vector control response was also emphasized, said an official spokesman.
