Surat: Police rounded up four persons after two groups clashed over a financial dispute in the city on Thursday. One person was seriously injured and was admitted to SMIMER hospital.
After cross complaints were filed by both parties, Sarthana police officials said that a group of people, including Raju Bharwad and Raju Rathod, were sitting at a plywood shop ‘Mahadev Alang’ at Diamond Nagar in Laskana village on Thursday. They called Dhiru Jetani, a resident of Sudaman Chowk, Mota Varachha, to the shop and said they had given a supari (assassination contract) to eliminate his brother Raju Jetani.
Dhiru Jetani denied having done any such thing and told them to go away. According to Jetani, Bharwad and Rathod then demanded Rs 50,000 as protection money from him.
On his refusal to pay and telling them to stay calm, Bharwad slapped Vijay Mangukia, who was with Jetani and threatened them with a stick.
Bharwad’s complaint states that Jetani, the owner of Mahadev Alang, his relatives Mahesh, Ravji and Vijay Mangukia got agitated when a money issue was discussed. Bharwad was hit on head by one of the accused, who is now being treated at SMIMER hospital.
Police registered a complaint under Sections 323, 385, 504, 506, 452, 143, 147 and 149 of the IPC and Section 135 of the Gujarat Police Act. The second complaint is registered under the IPC Sections 307, 323, 504, 506, 114 and Section 135 of the Gujarat Police Act.
A police official said, “It looks to be a case involving some financial dealing. However, both parties are hiding facts from the police. Once we speak to the injured person in a day or two, things will become clear. We arrested Dhiru Jetani, Mahesh, Ravji and Vijay late on Thursday and will produce them in court in the evening.”
