THANE: The crime branch, investigating the Rs 500 crore cryptocurrency racket, is probing the money trail of the company that reportedly duped 25,000 investors.
A
police officer said they are contacting banks and
financial institutions whose traces were found during searches of the office and house of the Flintstone Group owner. The company was run by Amit Lakhanpal, who introduced Money Trade Coin (MTC). Investigators suspect he has a secret
financial transaction route to park wealth abroad. “Experts have been roped in to unravel the technology,” said a senior police officer.
Another police team is corresponding with embassies of countries whose name Lakhanpal took to promote the currency. Meanwhile, Lakhanpal is trying to convince investors about returning their money, said a police officer. Police said they have found a bathroom with an AC, expensive bathtub, 68 bottles of Scotch and 12 tolas gold. A case has been registered with Navi Mumbai police on the seizure of liquor, said investigating officer Nitin Thakre.
