A memorial built by the SFI in front of the AITUC office at Pampadi for Jishnu Pranoy, a student of the Nehru college who was found dead in the college hostel last year, was removed on Friday following a High Court order.

The memorial, built on the student’s first death anniversary, was removed by the PWD. A strong police force was deployed at Pampadi to avert possible tension. When the memorial was built in front of the AITUC office, there were protests against it. The police had registered a case against 50-odd DYFI/SFI activists for constructing the memorial.

Krishnan Kutty of Pampadi approached the court seeking the removal of the memorial. As it was not removed even after the court order, he approached the court once again.
