Dengue awareness drive

BHUBANESWAR: With dengue being one of the fastest spreading vector-borne diseases among the city dwellers, the Centre for Youth and Social Development in collaboration with Plan India and Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation has launched a month long awareness drive.

As a part of the campaign, 150 volunteers and 20 experts would demonstrate on prevention of vector-borne diseases, especially dengue, covering more than 70 habitations in 10 urban slums in the city.Plan India has collaborated with the civic body to create awareness among people about the factors responsible for spreading the disease in early stages before the outbreak.

“We are conducting door-to-door campaign and plan to cover one lakh households and create awareness among the slum and non-slum high risk zones,” Plan India member Tussarkanti Das said.As many as 120 social workers along with 10 supervisors kicked off the campaign by caring out a rally in Salia Sahi on Tuesday. Bhubaneswar Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena flagged off the van for dengue awareness campaign.
Among others, Centre for Youth and Social Development chairman Prafulla Kumar Sahoo, ADMO Dr Sandipana Pati and Deputy Commissioner Lalatendu Sahoo were present.
