NEW DELHI: The trials for extra curricular activities (ECA) will be held from June 14 to July 5, in two phases — preliminary and finals. Both the trials will take place in the span of these three weeks. The trials will take place over 13 venues across Delhi University colleges.

The ECA aspirants can bag up to 5% seats reserved in each subject by every college, depending on the facilities available and its requirements. The option also allows the colleges to attract new talents as per their needs. Applicants also have an advantage in terms of cutoff relaxation as DU allows each college to relax up to 15% in the aggregate of the last cutoff.

The colleges declare their vacancies and submit a list of requirements to DU, which carries out centralised trials at preliminary and final levels. No student would be allowed to make a second attempt in the preliminary trial, said an official. The university would notify the applicants shortlisted for the final trials.

Officials said certificate verification would be carried out only for the finals and the applicants don’t have to bring their certificates for the preliminaries. Applicants should upload a self-attested copy of the highest-achievement certificate for each activity, earned between May 1, 2015 and April 30, 2018. For evaluation, applicants would have to carry all original certificates and self-attested copies as well. The university gives 75% weightage to trials and 25% to the certificates. To be selected, an applicant would have to score at least 50% in the finals. In case of a tie, the higher trial score would be the deciding factor. However, admission would depend on the seats available in a course, and DU’s ECA committee would decide the allotment.

Officials also stressed that in case of performing art trials, the applicants must be ready to perform beyond what they have prepared for the admission committee to judge the skill and knowledge of the applicant in the art. Since a larger stress is being paid to the trials, officials said, it is the performance of the students and their knowledge which would be tested, over the certificates.
