The Declaration was actually a conclusion of recommendations made by the global tourism stakeholders and policymakers who assembled at international conference in Pointe aux Piments recently to talk about the challenges as well as opportunities in terms of digitization for the global tourism industry.
The conference was participated by tourism ministers, heads of tourism boards and around 400 Mauritius tourism professionals.
Representatives from Seychelles, Réunion, Ghana, Sudan, Madagascar, Rodrigues, and World Tourism Organization also took part in the conference.
Recommendations in the Declaration include, among others, the setting up of a working group on digital platforms, the expansion of a sustainable and diverse tourism industry, and retraining the workforce keeping in mind the policies for creating environmentally friendly tourism.
