2020 Tesla Roadster Prototype Looks Resplendent In White, Too

The 2018 Tesla shareholder meeting debuted earlier this week with the presentation of what is believed to be the third prototype of the all new Roadster.

Joining the red and midnight silver ones, this white example attracted a lot of curious eyes, who wanted to see for themselves the company’s latest flagship a couple of years prior to its production kickoff. If everything goes according to plan, that is.

Some say that the privacy windows all around are there for a good reason: to hide the fact that it doesn’t have an interior yet. And from the images shared on Reddit by Ryaneager and on Facebook by Tamino Wirz, it’s hard to tell whether that’s true. But with at least two years before production starts, Elon Musk’s company has enough time to put all the pieces of the puzzle together.

The 2020 Tesla Roadster steps away from the brand’s first battery electric vehicle, which was essentially an electrified Lotus Elise. It has a very sexy shape and, if as the official specs revealed, some mind-blowing performance, too.

The open-top EV is expected to accelerate from 0 to 60mph (0-96km/h) in just 1.9 seconds and to reach the 100mph (161km/h) mark 4.2 seconds after departure. Moreover, it’s said to run the quarter mile in a mere 8.9 seconds and max out at over 250mph (402km/h).

But the second-gen Roadster isn’t all about performance, as its 200kWh battery pack will apparently allow it to travel for up to 620mi (998km) in between charges.

Also, it can take up to four occupants, although those sitting at the back won’t exactly feel comfortable due to the cramped space.

Tesla is already taking reservations for the new Roadster, and customers will have to pay big money to land one. $200,000 for the base model (with a $50,000 reservation) and $250,000 for the Roadster Founders Series. So, it’ll be savagely fast, but definitely a very premium product.

Tesla also uncovered a prototype of the Semi. The electric truck is scheduled to start production next year, in two versions: a base model with 300mi (480km) of range, and one with double that number, according to Elon Musk. Pricing will reportedly start at $150,000 and $180,000 respectively.
