Nagpur: The water works department of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has miserably failed to recover arrears of water bills, which have crossed Rs180 crore. Now, the Nagpur Environment Services Limited (NESL), a special purpose vehicle formed to implement 24X7 water supply project of NMC, wants the
property tax department to recover the arrears. The proposal will be tabled at the meeting of NESL board of directors on Friday.
Following failure to recover Rs91.54 crore, the civic body has disconnected water supply of 1,14,21 consumers. The board will also discuss a proposal for recovery of arrears of disconnected consumers and also a plan to charge groundwater rent from them.
Discussion will also be held on revised plan submitted by Orange City Water Private Limited — the firm entrusted to implement 24X7 water supply project — for completion of round the clock water supply work up to May 2019 and bringing 60% consumers under 24X7 water supply scheme up to December 2018.
