She was allegedly buried neck-deep in loose soil for over an hour

A day after the alleged death of a 30-year-old woman in Nuh following a superstitious practice, her family on Wednesday claimed she died due to a long-standing illness. However, the police said the matter is under investigation.

Prameena, who is survived by her husband Sakir and three children, was allegedly buried neck-deep in loose soil for over an hour on Tuesday as she was “possessed by evil spirits”.

Sakir later told journalists that he had taken Prameena to Hazi Sahida, who treats “paranormal” patients, at Shah Chokha village. Sahida allegedly told him that his wife was “possessed”.

Justice demanded

“Sahida buried her neck-deep in a mound of loose soil in her courtyard. Prameena’s condition started to deteriorate a few minutes later but Sahida did not let me pull her out. She did not let me bring her out even after she died. She kept telling me that Prameena was fine,” Sakir, a resident of Bhoothpur Udawar village, told a news portal. Prameena’s brother Liyakat also spoke to the news portal and demanded justice for her.

Pinangwan police station SHO inspector Naveen Kumar told The Hindu that Liyakat had stated in writing on Wednesday morning that his sister died due to illness and that no one was to be blamed for her death.

“We got to know about the incident through the local media. The family approached us seeking action late on Tuesday night. We told them to give a complaint in the writing. But they returned in the morning [on Wednesday] saying that she had died due to illness,” said Mr. Kumar.

He, however, added the post-mortem was conducted and the report is awaited for further action.
