Ujjain: Pre-monsoon showers drench city

Ujjain: Dark clouds that hovered over the city finally drenched it on Wednesday evening with squall and gusty winds. Since last couple of days it was partially cloudy causing increased humidity and unbearable heat. It took a turn with the rainfall at around 5 pm.

According to Government Jiwajirao Observatory’s weatherman due to pre-monsoon activity drizzle was expected during couple of weeks, but regular monsoon rains are expected till end of the month.

The weather of the city suddenly took a turn for the better but the rain with squall unearthed the maintenance claims of the electricity company as power interruptions were reported in many colonies of the city for two to three hours after the rain.

Children enjoyed the first rain of the monsoon in many areas of the city. However, two-wheeler riders had to run for shelter till the rains stopped. Due to squall tents at some places were reportedly uprooted. Continued pre-monsoon rain will increase the water level in the region, weatherman said.

The rainfall created problems in localities situated in lower areaa of the city like Dhaba Road and Gopal Mandir areas where dirty water overflowed from drainages on to the roads causing problems for shopkeepers and pedestrians.
