Truck enters residential area, batters 8 cars

GURUGRAM: A trailer truck truck ploughed through eight parked cars before hitting an electricity pole and coming to a halt in Sector 45 in the early hours of Thursday, disrupting power and water supply in the area as well.
By the time locals heard the commotion and ran out, the driver had fled, leaving the truck behind. Supply was resumed more than 16 hours later.

A few people who witnessed the truck hitting the cars told police it happened around 12.40am and it seemed the driver of the truck was trying to take a turn but lost control. Power was restored only around 5pm.

“The truck rammed into a power pole next to house number 952, after hitting the cars. If the house didn’t have a ramp, it would’ve been hit as well,” said Sanjeev Saxena, a local.

“Thank god not many people were around, or this could have been a major tragedy. Due to laxity of authorities, big vehicles, which are not allowed in residential areas, openly use these streets. I came out of my house and saw that the trailer had rammed into the pole, but when I approached it, nobody was inside the trailer. The electricity department team arrived within hours and made considerable efforts to restore supply,” said Damodar Dhyani, who lives in house number 953.

Residents filed a complaint at Sector 40 police station, but no FIR had been registered till the time this report was filed.

“We have received a complaint, and are searching for the driver first,” said ASI Sandeep Kumar, the investigating officer.
