Robert “Chopper” Gaddie, 94 of Wellington, passed away Monday, June 4, at Sumner Regional Medical Center, Wellington.
Robert Eugene Gaddie was born on April 1, 1924 the son of Robert W. and Elizabeth (Sidebottom) Gaddie in Wellington. He was a 1942 graduate of the Wellington High School. Bob served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. After the war he helped his father with the Gaddie Dairy. He was united in marriage to Glenna Kibbe on February 14, 1948. Bob worked for the United States Post Office retiring as Postmaster of Wellington. Chopper and Glenna traveled throughout the world and spent winters in Hawaii every year (his dream from serving there in the war). Chopper enjoyed jazz music.
He loved watching sports and had enormous pride in our country. Chopper enjoyed people and made many friends in Wellington throughout his life. He was a longtime member of the VFW and American Legion.
Chopper is survived by his loving wife, Glenna of Wellington; son, Robert Gaddie and wife Doris of Plano, TX, daughters: Rebecca Morgan and J.J. Juknialis of Cleveland, OH and Diana Bradbury and husband David of Hutchinson, and daughter-in-law, Deborah Gaddie of Longmont, CO; 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, a son, James Michael Gaddie and a grandson, Doug Gaddie.
Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday June 9th at the Shelley Family Funeral Home in Wellington. A memorial has been established in his name with the Avenue of Flags.
