After experiencing heavy rainfall this morning, the city of Mumbai is back to normal as rain has totally subsided.
While the city had received 20 mm of rainfall till 12 noon, eastern suburbs got 15 mm rainfall and western suburbs got 26 mm. But since then, there has been no evident rainfall at any part of Mumbai. Mumbai’s civic body is however on its toes to prevent any monsoon related problem as the Indian Meteorological Department has reiterated its forecast of heavy to very heavy rainfall along the west coast, including Mumbai.
IMD has said that southwest monsoon is likely to reach some parts of South Maharashtra in the next 24 hours while the likely formation of a low pressure system over the Bay of Bengal can result in heavy rain along the west coast between 8th and 11th June. A statement issued by Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai has informed that leaves of all senior officials, including Deputy Municipal commissioners, Assistant Commissioners and heads of departments have been cancelled and they have been directed to be available in their headquarters on 9th and 10th June.
As part of its preparedness, teams of National Disaster Response Force, Navy personnel, Flood Rescue Teams of Mumbai Fire Brigade have been kept ready with necessary equipment while bus transport system, police, traffic police and education officers have been alerted.
