Maharashtra forms cabinet sub-panel to decide fate of ‘bogus’ staff

Mumbai: The Maharashtra government has constituted a cabinet sub-committee to decide the fate of those employees who have secured government job using a fake caste certificate of SC, ST and OBC.

The general administration department (GAD) on Tuesday issued a government resolution (GR) in this regard. The Supreme Court had in July 2017 passed an order that anyone found guilty of using a forged caste certificate for getting education and employment will lose their degree and job as well.

The apex court had also said that such employees are liable for punishment irrespective of the years of service. The government had sought the opinion from the law and judiciary department and the advocate general (AG).

“The consultations have, however, failed to provide succour from the AG and the law and judiciary department, with both unanimously holding that the SC order was unambiguous about dismissal being the punishment for beneficiaries of the fraud,” a government official said.
