School Education Minister K.A. Sengottaiyan on Wednesday agreed to consider the request for dispensing with the weightage marks given to candidates who cleared the Tamil Nadu Teachers Eligibility Test (TNTET).
He was responding to DMK MLA and former Minister Thangam Thennarasu, who said the weightage marks were against natural justice as every year the total marks scored by students were increasing.
Speaking on a calling attention motion in the Assembly for providing employment to those who have cleared TNTET, Mr. Thennarasu said after 2014, not a single secondary-grade teacher or graduate teacher was appointed through the Teachers Recruitment Board. “Candidates who cleared the examination in 2017 are not able to get certificates as the rescanning process is not completed. This has prevented them from getting appointments in private schools,” Mr. Thennarasu said.
Mr. Sengottaiyan said once a candidate cleared the examination, it would be valid for seven years.
“As far as government schools are concerned, appointments can be done only if there are vacancies,” he said. The appointment will also take into account the qualifying marks, weightage, roaster and ranking,” he said.
