Mandarin Oriental is a familiar name among international celebrities, which is what makes the luxury hotel's decade-long celebrity-fan campaign quite successful.

The five-star hotel at Hyde Park in the Knightsbridge district of London, however, made headlines this time for a huge fire that broke out last night, a week after completing what was called the "most extensive restoration" in its 115-year history, according to the official website.

Among the guests who escaped the fire was singer-songwriter Robbie Williams and his wife Ayda Field.

CELEBRITY HOTSPOT

Naturally, a luxury hotel of this stature is definitely a favourite among celebrities including popular designer Christian Louboutin, and actors Dev Patel and Morgan Freeman, among others.

Morgan Freeman is known to be particularly fond of the luxury hotel located in London where "quiet means quiet". It is the sense of privacy that the hotel offers which attracts Morgan the most, mentions the website in its fan campaign.

For Loubotin, it is the "quietness and exoticism" of Mandarin Oriental that attracts him to the luxury hotel.

For Dev Patel, it is the feeling of being "at home" that makes him prefer the hotel over others. He is known to be a fan of the serenity of Mandarin Oriental, Prague, which was a monastery in a former life.

The hotel in London had also reportedly been home to the British Royal family, including an event for British and foreign royals hosted by Queen Elizabeth II on the eve of Prince William's wedding in 2011.

In 2015, China's President Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan were also hosted by the hotel. The President and his wife were guests of Queen Elizabeth II during their state visit to Britain.

Last evening's fire was quickly extinguished, but the mishap comes as a surprise especially after the hotel chain had said in one of its press releases that their property in London was "designed to confirm this historic hotel's position as one of the best in the world."
