Bhopal: The investigation of four teams constituted by the Election Commission of India (ECI) to enquire into the alleged errors in the electoral rolls in the state is over and they will submit their report to the Chief Election Commissioner on Thursday.
The teams conducted field verification by doing a house to house survey and verified the voters. Though the investigators found voters matching the voters’ list but it also identified many untraceable voters. The investigators found huge errors in the electoral rolls. Some names surfaced multiple times reportedly in the list.
The investigators have found that many voters who had died in past are still alive and kicking in the rolls, names of some who have migrated for a long time have been shown against the the same address in the voters list. While it identified that some names have been listed simultaneously in many polling booths.
CEO to face CEC on irregularity
The chief electoral officer and other staff of the office will attend the meeting with the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) OP Rawat on Thursday. CEC will assess the work of updating the voters’ list in MP and will also look into the irregularities surfaced during the enquiry done by the four teams in the state. Whereas the meeting is of a regular nature but it hold special significance for the state as the CEO have answer on the findings of the team.
