Hearing on ousting Sharad from official residence today

| | New Delhi

The Supreme Court will hear on Thursday a petition to oust disqualified JD(U) Rajya Sabha member Sharad Yadav from his official residence. The petition filed by JD(U) leader of Rajya Sabha, Ram Chandra Prasad Singh, could not be heard on Wednesday as the counsel appearing for Sharad Yadav was not available.

The appeal by Ram Chandra Prasad Singh has challenged an earlier decision of the Delhi High Court that allowed Sharad Yadav to keep his official residence and even withdraw his salary and perks despite being disqualified for participating in an Opposition rally against the wishes and interest of the party.

Yadav had gone to Delhi HC challenging his disqualification on several grounds, including the one concerning the basic principle of natural justice, as he was not heard by the Rajya Sabha chairman prior to passing of order against him.

Yadav's term in RS is to end in July 2022. Along with him, Ali Anwar, another JD(U) Rajya Sabha member was also disqualified on December 4 last. Anwar's term in RS ended in April this year.
