Cape Town - The Springboks go into Saturday's first Test against England at Ellis Park with a convincing record at the venue.

At what is considered the spiritual home of South African rugby, the Boks have a 75% win record at the Johannesburg venue since their first match at the ground since readmission in 1992, a 27-24 defeat to the All Blacks. 

Since readmission, the Boks have played 28 times at Ellis Park, winning 21 times and losing just seven.

Their last loss at the venue came in 2015 when they went down 27-20, also to New Zealand. 

In fact, of South Africa's seven Ellis Park losses, four have been against New Zealand while the Boks have lost to France twice and the British and Irish Lions once. 

Interestingly, South Africa have only met England once at the venue post-isolation, and that came in 2012 when the Boks emerged as comfortable 36-27 winners. 

The Boks, captained by Jean de Villiers that day, scored four tries through Willem Alberts, Bismarck du Plessis, Francois Hougaard and JP Pietersen.
