Peter Stringfellow dead: Boy George and Frank Bruno lead touching tributes to businessman
PETER STRINGFELLOW died aged 77 in the early hours of Thursday morning, his spokesperson has confirmed, and now celebrities including Boy George and Frank Bruno have flocked to Twitter to pay tribute to the late businessman and nightclub owner.
Peter’s publicist told Express.co.uk: “Yes, sadly he died, surrounded by family in the early hours this morning, following a year-long battle with cancer.”
Former boxing champion Frank Bruno described the late star as a "great guy".
He tweeted: "I met this man a few times over the years. A great guy & king of the discos. My thoughts are with his family."
Boy George commented: “R.I.P Peter Stringfellow. Wow, a big part of our lives and one of Sheffield's finest. What a character. He introduced me and my mum to Princess Diana.”
Good Morning Britain host Kate Garraway commented: “The ‘King of Clubs’ and a great friend of @GMB #PeterStringfellow has died aged 77 .
“A controversial figure but anyone who actually met him loved him & I can’t help feeling the world’s a duller place this morning. Love and thoughts to his family xxx #rip.”
TV presenter Greg Scott penned: “Peter Stringfellow. That’s one person who won’t be arriving at the Pearly Gates thinking, ‘If only I’d…’Except perhaps, ‘… lived longer”.
“Got to be thinking of the young ones he’s left behind.
Tony Blackburn said the businessman was “full of fun” in a touching tribute.
He wrote: “So sorry to hear that Peter Stringfellow has died at the age of 77.
“He was a terrific guy who lived life to the full and was a wonderful person to be with. He was always full of fun and to me was a big part of he 60's and 70's. R.I.P. Peter x.”(sic)

Former rugby star Brian Moore penned: “RIP Peter Stringfellow - spoke at a Cambridge Union debate with him once; he was very good company.”
In a statement released by his publicist Matt Glass, he said: “Known as the King of Clubs, Peter will be remembered for his flamboyant style, charismatic personality and for being a magnet for celebrities across the planet, with A-list stars across six decades flocking to perform and party at his various clubs around the world.
“His eponymous London club, on Upper St Martins Lane, is one of the capital’s longest-running nightlife venues after opening in 1980, and will continue to operate as normal.

“The family asks for privacy at this difficult time.”
Peter opened a string of venues around the world and was widely known for his eponymous clubs in London’s West End.
The Rolling Stones, The Kinks and Fleetwood Mac were just some of the acts who famously performed at his nightclubs.
Peter is survived by his wife Bella and four children Karen, Scott, Rosabella and Angelo.
He was also grandfather to Taylor, Jaime, Thomas and Isabelle.
