Gujarat high court on Thursday granted pre-arrest bail to two sons of Anand MLA
Kanti Sodha Parmar, Ranjit and Mahendra, who were booked for celebratory firing from their gun during a
community programme in Anand district.
The FIR was filed by the
Anand town police last month after a video went viral on social media platforms showing Ranjit and Mahenra Sodha indulging in celebratory firing. They were booked under the
Arms Act. The incident had allegedly taken place on May 11 in Anand town when the duo had gone to attend a folk music programme.
Justice A Y Kogje granted anticipatory bail to the accused on furnishing bail bond of Rs 10,000, on condition of not influencing witnesses and regularly marking their presence before the investigator. The HC noted that the FIR was filed on basis of the video that was spread on social media, and nobody got injured in the celebratory firing.
There were nine others also who were booked along with the MLA’s sons. The brothers could not be traced after Anand police registered the FIR. The duo is allegedly seen firing more than 50 rounds in the air from a 12-bore gun during the event.
