MADURAI: The Madurai bench of the Madras high court on Thursday quashed all criminal proceedings against DMDK founder Vijayakanth in a case pertaining to clashes among lawyers inside a district sessions court at Nagercoil in Tamil Nadu in 2013.
The Kottar police had registered an FIR against the actor-turned-politician under various sections, including Section 307 (attempt to murder), of the IPC.

The FIR had been registered on a complaint filed by the then Kanyakumari district public prosecutor, A Gnanasekar. The public prosecutor had contended that Vijayakanth had stared at him and gesticulated his men to attack him.

When the case came up for final hearing, Justice G R Swaminathan quashed the FIR and noted that prosecuting Vijayakanth in this case would be a gross abuse of legal process.
