Willian perfect for Man Utd

Willian would be a perfect fit at Manchester United - but Chelsea surely will not make the same mistake as they did with Nemanja Matic, says former West Ham goalkeeper Shaka Hislop.

“Willian has been heavily linked with Manchester United,” Hislop said.

“I think it would be a perfect fit, along with the signing of Fred at Manchester United.

“I think it adds to the strength of the Manchester United squad, if they can get Willian.

“But now it’s a little bit of a catch 22. You see how well Nemanja Matic did in his switch from Stamford Bridge to Old Trafford.

“Now, you’re tempted to say Willian would do the exact same.

“But if you’re Chelsea you’re thinking ‘we’re not going to make that same mistake twice’.

“So as a result, the uncertainty doesn’t help Willian’s prospects and certainly it works doubly negatively in his prospects to move to Old Trafford.”

Fred injured

Fred has been injured in Brazil training ahead of the World Cup, just days after agreeing to join Manchester United.

The 25-year-old, who agreed a £52million move to Old Trafford from Shakhtar Donetsk earlier this week, was seen receiving medical treatment during Brazil’s latest session.

Fred appeared to sustain the injury to his right ankle after tangling with Casemiro and was pictured grimacing in pain as it was iced and strapped up.

Manchester United will be worried to see their new signing pick up such a problem, with the Brazilian midfielder’s World Cup now in doubt.

Luke Shaw future

Jose Mourinho has reportedly shelved plans to sign Alex Sandro, and is willing to hand Luke Shaw an Old Trafford lifeline.

Express Sport understands Manchester United have been tracking Juventus star Sandro over the past few months.

But the Independent say the Red Devils will no longer be pursuing the Brazil international.

And that is because Mourinho is willing to give Shaw a chance to prove himself.

The Independent add that Mourinho is ready to stick with Shaw and Ashley Young next term.

Jose Mourinho talks

Jose Mourinho is reportedly in talks with Real Madrid over a sensational return to the Bernabeu.

Real Madrid are on the lookout for a new manager following the shock resignation of Zinedine Zidane just five days after winning the Champions League for a third consecutive season.

Los Blancos are keen to appoint another big name to lead their La Liga charge and have been linked with the likes of Mauricio Pochettino, Antonio Conte, Jurgen Klopp and Joachim Low.

But with their efforts to prise the aforementioned names to the Spanish capital so far proving difficult, club president Florentino Perez is exploring the possibility of Mourinho’s return.

Spanish publication , claim Madrid chiefs have even been in talks with the Portuguese coach’s representatives to sound out the possibility of a move.

Bale/Ronaldo decision made

Manchester United will prioritise signing Gareth Bale over Cristiano Ronaldo this summer, reports claim.

Bale and Ronaldo have been linked with returns to the Premier League over the past few years and their dual admissions led to claims Old Trafford chiefs could swoop for them.

The Manchester Evening News say United have decided to go after Bale rather than Ronaldo ahead of the 2018/19 campaign though.

United chief Ed Woodward made Bale a target as soon as he took up his senior post at the club.

United are apparently keeping close tabs on developments regarding Bale, who revealed he will hold talks with Real and his agent, Jonathan Barnett.

Real are expected to demand more than £100m for Bale, which would make him their most expensive signing ever.
