AHMEDABAD: Jignesh Mevani, the Dalit leader and independent MLA from Vadgam in
Banaskantha district, received another threatening call from an
unknown caller, after which his organization, the Rashtriya Dalit Adhikar Manch (RDAM), submitted a memorandum to the
Gujarat director general of police (DGP) demanding prompt action.
The call was received by Kaushik Parmar, Mevani’s associate, on Thursday morning. The caller first asked whose number it was and then issued a threat. “Tujhe parinam chahiye naa, parinam de denge. Lallu panju samajh liya hai kya… Mera jyada se jyada kya kar lenge” (You want results, I will give you results. Are you underestimating me? What is the worst you can do.)
On Wednesday, Parmar filed a complaint with Vadgam police about two other calls, one allegedly from gangster Ravi Pujari and the other from an unknown person who called himself Rajveer Mishra.
Mevani said that he has repeatedly received threatening calls from the same number and the police must now take it seriously and enhance his security. “It seems that some persons have been given free rein by the government and they are threatening me on the phone. If an MLA is threatened twice in two days, one can understand what the the law and order condition of the state is.”
Mevani, who has been campaigning in Rajasthan against the ruling BJP, said that Dalit leaders and members of his organization members asked for his security to be enhanced.
