UTS app huge hit among commuters

The Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) app is gaining popularity among suburban train commuters in the city.

On June 1, a total of 17,710 tickets, the highest daily figure till date, were bought using the app by commuters on the Central Railway. In all, CR has sold 7.86 lakh tickets in April and May. The figure stood at 25.56 lakh for the period between April 2017 and March 2018.

S.K Jain, Divisional Railway Manager, CR, said, “Our efforts to popularise the app is yielding results. We have appointed a woman officer solely for its promotion and she has done a wonderful job. We are certain to break more records in the coming months.”

The CR has been conducting awareness drives involving railway officers going to booking offices and encouraging people to download the app and switch to paperless tickets.

Senior railway officials said total earnings from the sale of suburban tickets and season passes on the app for April and May were ₹3.89 crore. Between April 2017 and March 2018, the Railways earned ₹13.54 crore from ticket sales on the app. The number of passengers between April and May was 44 lakh, while in 2017-18 the figure stood at 1.53 crore.

5% bonus scheme

A senior CR official said, “At the present rate, we will easily cross earrings of ₹20 crore by March 2018. We are hoping with the new scheme of providing a 5% bonus on every recharge on the app for three months, we will be able to get more subscribers to the app.”
