A 17-year-old drug addict allegedly hacked his mother and sister to death with an agricultural tool at a village in Punjab’s Fazilka after they refused to give him money on Wednesday night.

The incident took place at their house at Burwala village in Jalalabad subdivision of the district. The police said after his mother and sister refused to give him money in the evening, he left the house in a huff.

He returned later in the night and killed the two with the agricultural tool and fled from the spot by scaling the wall of the house.

Then he went to his relative’s place at Basti Jhoke village, 20km from Burwala.

His brother, a daily wager, reached home at midnight and informed the police upon finding his mother and sister dead.

During investigation, the police grew suspicious of the teenager’s involvement.

When grilled, he said a ‘tantrik’ instructed him to kill his mother and sister to earn Rs 1 crore.

The accused was booked under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The bodies were handed over to the family after post-mortem.
