CHANDIGARH: A
video footage of a man thrashing a
cop in full public view in
Sector 22 went viral in the city on Wednesday.
Sources said the act was recorded by a man on his mobile phone from a roadside tea vend near Kiran theatre around 7 am. The footage shows that a man in his police uniform is being pushed around outside a house. The attacker hits him and then brings him down on the ground was. A woman can be seen trying to intervene. Later, another woman reached the spot and all three held the cop and started walking towards the Aroma 21 light point. In the footage, the cop is not seen retaliating, an indication that he might be in the wrong, said sources.
Police said cop appeared to be an official of Haryana Police of a rank of ASI.
On the other hand, police said no FIR or DDR (daily diary report) has been registered so far as there was no complainant.
Krishan Kumar, DSP (central division) said the Sector 17 police have not received any complaints from cop or anyone else in this regard so far. “If the cop will come forward and lodge a complaint, action will be taken against the attacker.
