Co-worker of victim’s father arrested

The Yamunanagar police said on Wednesday that they have arrested a man in connection with the rape and murder of a six-year-old girl. The police said that the co-worker of the victim’s father has been arrested.

The girl’s body was found near a stud farm belonging to Congress leader Nirmal Singh. The arrested accused used to work at the stud farm. He allegedly administered a horse sedative to the girl and raped her thrice before slitting her throat, the police said.

Yamunanagar Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kalia said the accused lured the girl to a secluded place outside the stud farm around noon on June 2.

Mr. Kalia said that the accused raped the girl after she fell unconscious. He then went to his room for a few hours, but came back later and raped the girl again. He raped the girl for a third time at 8 p.m. on the same day, said Mr. Kalia, adding that the accused then slit the girl’s throat.

‘Accused was drunk’

The police said that the accused was inebriated during the incident. The accused then inflicted an injury on himself and got admitted at a private hospital in Nathanpur village to avoid attention of the police, said Mr. Kalia. But the police got suspicious after a needle and a syringe were found at the crime spot.

The accused, who is from Jaisalmer, was arrested after he purportedly confessed to his crime during sustained interrogation. He will be produced in the court on Thursday. He had been working at the stud farm for more than a decade.
