Indore: Traffic police plan to install more Red Light Violation Detectors

Indore: Indore traffic police have sought permission to renew annual maintenance contract of Red Light Violation Detectors (RLVD) from police headquarters, Bhopal. ASP (traffic) Pradeep Singh Chauhan said 28 road crossings have RLVDs, which are maintained by a company Technosys Security System. He said new RLVD cameras will be installed at other road crossings in the city.

“RLVD system is getting good response in the city. Regular challans and action against violators have helped to control chaos and has given relief to overstrained traffic police,” Chuahan said.

RLVD system

The RLVD cameras start functioning when traffic signal changes to red. The cameras capture picture of the vehicle with its registration tags if it crosses the stop line when the signal turns red and sends the picture to Traffic Management Centre. Officials at the centre check the data manually and the computer generates the challan, which is then mailed to the errant vehicle owner along with the photographic evidence to avoid disputes.

RLVD benefits

Those who violate the rules and escape penal action using their influence will no longer be able to do so because once the challan is generated by the computer, the record becomes official and there will be no choice but to pay the fine. Besides, increase in areas covered by RLVDs will force commuters to follow traffic rules and reduce chaos on city roads.
