Clothes thieves get off with warning

Men discharged after being caught shoplifting in Sliema

Two Syrian men were on Thursday handed a one-year provisional discharge following theft charges.

Omar Khalaf, 24 and Mohama Darwish, 22, admitted to stealing the clothes, valued under €250, from Pull & Bear and Zara outlets in Sliema.

Magistrate Grazio Mercieca told the two men that Syrian migrants had a good reputation in Malta.

“They do not do these things”, the magistrate said.

Inspector Mark Mercieca prosecuted.
