Krishna water sharing deferred by Andhra Pradesh, Telangana

HYDERABAD: The Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) has deferred the sharing of Krishna waters between AP and TS and decided to wait till the Krishna received good inflows, after the onset of monsoon.  The KRMB meeting held here on Wednesday also deferred decisions on several key other issues too.“We have moved ahead on some issues and deferred some subjects,” KRMB chairman HK Sahu said after the meeting. According to officials of KRMB, both the States requested to take up the water sharing subject in the next meeting, as there are no good inflows in Krishna. 

On the gaps in water accounting between the releases from Srisailam and realisation at Nagarjuna Sagar during 2017-18, the Board has decided that issue needed a detailed scientific study to establish the reasons for discrepancy. “For this purpose CWPRS, Pune will be consulted. It is also agreed to conduct similar studies in other projects too,” according to an official release issued by the KRMB later.

It was also agreed to conduct observation losses in the current water year 2018-19 also. Both the States have agreed for sharing of power generation benefits at Srisailam in 50:50 ration during the current water year, as was agreed in the previous water year. When both the States raised objections over new projects, the Board asked both TS and AP to furnish the detailed project reports (DPRs) of new projects for technical clearance by KRMB.
