The State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) under the Disaster Management Department has issued a Statewide alert following a very heavy rainfall warning from the India Met Department.
District Collectors have been directed to prepare the administration for emergency operations.
The Met Centre here has warned that heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at some places in Kerala till June 11. Strong winds, speed occasionally reaching 45-55 kmph, are likely along and off the Kerala coast and Lakshadweep areas till Friday afternoon, fishermen have been warned. In the light of the warning, the SEOC has directed district administrations to be prepared for flash floods, landslips and mudslides. The Central Water Commission has also warned that the rivers in Kerala were likely to overflow.
The SEOC has asked Collectors to ensure 24x7 operation of taluk control rooms in hilly regions till June 11 and make arrangements to open relief camps to relocate people from flooded areas. The authorities have been asked to restrict road traffic in landslip-prone areas at night, prohibit parking of vehicles on hilly roads, and prevent people from wading in the sea and flooded streams and canals.
The District Emergency Operations Centres have also been geared up to meet exigencies.
