30-year-old woman bludgeoned to death in Nainital

A 30-year-old woman was bludgeoned to death while her husband was seriously injured after some unknown assailants attacked them at their home in Nainital district, police on Thursday said.

The incident took place in TP Nagar area of Haldwani town in the district on Tuesday night but came to light on Thursday.

Vijay Mehta, in-charge of TP Nagar police post, said that some unknown people broke into Bhuwan Bhatt’s home in Panchayat Ghar area with the intention of robbery late on Tuesday night.

“Bhuwan and his wife Radha were attacked with some weapon on their heads repeatedly. While Radha succumbed to the injuries, Bhuvan sustained serious injuries,” he said.

Mehta said Bhuwan was rendered unconsciousness and remained lying near his wife’s body since Tuesday night.

“The incident came to light on Thursday when foul smell started emanating from the house. A tenant complained to the police following which a team rushed to the spot. The woman was found dead and her husband was admitted to a hospital,” he said.

Police have a lodged a case of murder and further investigation is on in the matter. As per the police official, they will record the statement of the husband once he regains consciousness.

The woman’s body was found naked and police are probing if she was sexually assaulted before being murdered. Bhuwan ran a small coaching centre in Haldwani.
