After a month-long search, the government railway police and the crime branch officers on Wednesday arrested a 21-year-old man who allegedly pushed businessman Deepak Patwa, 56, in front of a running train at Mulund station.

Patwa had succumbed to his injuries on the spot.

The incident took place on April 24, when arrested accused, Akshay Mange, a student of TYBCom, was on his way to college.

“At the station, he saw that Manisha Khakadiya, 38, was fighting with Patwa, claiming he touched her inappropriately. Mange intervened, and in a fit of rage pushed Patwa in front of the train,” said police inspector Dhanvate from the crime branch.

Khakhadiya, who was arrested soon after the CCTV footage of the incident went viral, told the police she didn’t know Mange.

“We alerted our informers and asked them to trace the man seen in the CCTV clip,” said Dhanvate.

On Wednesday, the police got a tip-off that the youth stayed in Thane, after which they arrested him.
