Meghalaya tourism witnesses a major blow

The stone pelting on tourist vehicles is the most horrific treatment that could be meted out to the outsiders, the repercussion of which is that the Assam tourist vehicles have started avoiding Shillong. The stone pelting was completely uncalled for and a kind of rare incident that happened nowhere in the world. Even the most disturbed world cities do not show such cases of atrocities upon tourists.

The quarrel of the present situation has directly impacted all the road side vendors, tea stalls, food stalls, tourist spots, local taxis, tourist cabs, home stays, guest houses and hotels. It has immensely affected the financial condition of the population of the city which are dependent in various ways on the tourism sector, opined the Federation.

In the meantime, the Federation has urged all the sections of the society, particularly those directly associated with the present standoff, to appreciate the importance of the tourism industry and thus take on non-violent means in resolving the issues of contention.
