GUWAHATI: The violence-scarred hill town of
Shillong limped back to normal on Tuesday, with no incidents of fresh violence reported.
The
Meghalaya capital had been in the grip of unrest that followed an altercation and scuffle between Punjabi residents of Sweeper's
Colony and local employees of the state-run bus service on Thursday, which escalated and led to unrelenting clashes between local mobs and police personnel.
A visibly relaxed Shillong went about its day as usual, overcoming the shadow of violence of the past four days of unrest. "No more gatherings, no more stone-pelting, no tear gas shelling and no noise today...It feels good to say that Shillong is gradually returning to normalcy,"
East Khasi Hills district deputy commissioner
PS Dkhar told TOI. As a precautionary measure, district authorities clamped night curfew from 4pm on Tuesday to 5am on Wednesday.
