NEW DELHI: Around Rs 2 lakh was
stolen from a woman’s bag at a store on central Delhi’s Tughlaq Road when she went inside a
trial room to try an outfit.
The woman, who came to Delhi from Hyderabad for two days with her husband, had left her bag outside the trial room on Tuesday when the incident happened. On finding her money missing, the
woman alerted her husband, Srinivas, who then informed the store manager, and later the police. An FIR was registered and a team was formed to trace the accused.
CCTV footage shows another woman opening her bag and taking away the money. Speaking to TOI, Srinivas, who went back to his house in Hyderabad, said, “I was looking at other items and my wife was inside the trial room. There was a stool outside each cabin for customers to keep their belongings. My wife, like every other customer, kept her handbag there and took barely a minute to change. When she came out, the bag was right where she had left it”.
He added that his wife then changed back to her clothes and went to the billing counter. “At the counter, she found the cash missing. We told the store manager about it. He scanned the CCTV footage, and saw a woman opening the bag. She could be seen keeping the money in her bag and moving out of the store,” he said.
Police have circulated the woman’s picture on all WhatsApp groups and teams have been formed to nab her.
