LUCKNOW: After a sedate week, the
mercury turned active on Tuesday and rose to cross 40 mark once again, reviving the discomforting sultry weather conditions witnessed in May. Relief, however, is likely once again on Wednesday and Thursday with the weatherman forecasting possibility of dust or thunderstorm in coming days.
On Tuesday, the maximum temperature rose to 40.4 degrees Celsius, a degree above normal, and minimum was at 29.6 degrees Celsius, three degrees above normal. Relative humidity was also high — between 44%-67%. Together, high temperature and high humidity led to rise in the discomfort level.
On Wednesday and Thursday, sky is expected to be partly cloudy with maximum and minimum temperatures being around 40 and 29
degree Celsius, respectively. Possibility of dust or thunderstorm is more on Thursday than on Wednesday. Dust storm or thunderstorm may again occur on Friday and Saturday.
State Met director
JP Gupta said that a cylonic circulation has formed over east UP and easterly winds are keeping humidity levels high. Together, the two factors may cause dust, thunderstorms in some parts of the state, particularly east UP. The change in weather conditions may also impact Lucknow.
The city witnessed high temperatures in May with the maximum soaring to 44.8 degree Celsius on May 26. However, thereafter, dust and thunderstorms brought temperature down and the mercury stayed below 40 degree Celsius from May 29 onwards.
Met officials said that the monsoon advancement is at normal speed and is expected to arrive in the city between June 18-20.
