J.J. Abrams and Sara Bareilles are teaming up -- wait, what? -- for a musical dramedy that's essentially a love letter to the diverse musicality of New York City.

Per the Hollywood Reporter, Apple has picked up the series Little Voice, about finding your most authentic voice in the Big Apple. The series is named after Bareilles' debut album and will feature original music from the Grammy-nominated singer.

The project reunites Bareilles with Jessie Nelson (Stepmom, I Am Sam), with whom she previously worked on the Tony-nominated Broadway musical Waitress. In addition to writing and directing the first episode, Nelson will also serve as the showrunner. Abrams and Bareilles will executive-produce the series. Season 1 will consist of 10 episodes.

Little Voice joins a stacked lineup of projects for Apple's in-development streaming service which also includes a psychological thriller from M. Night Shyamalan, the Octavia Spencer drama Are You Sleeping, a Kristen Wiig-fronted comedy, an untitled morning show comedy from Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, and the comedy Dickinson starring Hailee Steinfeld about the famed poet.
