FALL RIVER — Two men are facing charges after a motor vehicle pursuit turned into a foot pursuit in the Flint neighborhood.

Officer John Ruggiero was on bicycle patrol in the area of Pleasant and Quarry streets around 3 p.m. Tuesday when he noticed a blue Honda Accord being driven by Bailey Rodrigues. Ruggiero was aware that Rodrigues did not have a valid license.

Ruggiero began following the vehicle when it entered the Flint Village Plaza and began traveling at a high rate of speed through the parking lot toward Quarry Street. The car then jumped the curb and sidewalk on to Quarry Street.

At that time officers Matthew Mendes and Kevin Bshara were conducting an unrelated vehicle stop when they saw Ruggiero pointing to the blue Honda and watched the car passing other vehicles on Quarry Street, driving toward on-coming traffic and causing vehicles to swerve out of the way to avoid a collision.

As the car fled, witnesses directed police in the direction of Alden Street. With more officers arriving in the area, police began checking yards in the area of Pitman Street and observed the Honda still driving at an excessive speed in the area of East Warren Street. Officer Martin Pena stopped the vehicle and learned Rodrigues was no longer in the car.

As other officers continued to pursue Rodrigues, residents pointed them to the 1800 block of Pleasant Street where Rodrigues was apprehended on a rooftop at 1809-1799 Pleasant St.
