JAIPUR: Hundreds of citizens turned up for a
marathon to mark the
World Environment Day in Jaipur on Tuesday. The event was organized by
Rajasthan Pollution Control Board (RPCB). The run began from East Gate of Sawai Man Singh stadium. The marathon saw participation of school kids, police force, scouts, NCC students and ordinary citizens.
The occasion was also marked with planting of saplings by the guests. During the rally, forest and environment minister, Gajendra Singh Khimsar inaugurated the E-Waste Collection Centre situated near IOC Petrol Pump in Sahkar Marg. Currently, the centre open at some petrol pumps will work for three days from June 5 to June 7.
Here people can dump their non-working mobile phones, computers, rooters, etc. Summed up e-waste materials will be delivered in scientific manner to authorized centers in the state. Presently, there are 23 units operated in the state.
The Rajasthan pollution control board has started a campaign to spread public awareness to encourage the scientific methods to recycle e-waste. The state board will try to continue such activities in big cities in future.
Social organisations teamed up with the government agencies planted saplings in different parts of the city.
Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital doctors and social organisations’ representatives planted 101 samplings on the premises of the hospital. A rally was also taken out by social organisations, in which minister of state for health Bansidhar Bajia and SMS Hospital’s superintendent Dr DS Meena participated.
