Roswell Village Council

May 15 meeting

KEY ACTION Following a brief executive session, council voted unanimously to hire Hunter Corbett, of Midvale, as a street maintenance worker.

DISCUSSION Mayor Cathy Beach said council would draw up a list of priority jobs for Corbett to complete. Corbett will need to have a background check and will be on a six-month probationary period. The job consists of no more than 10 hours per week and pays $10 an hour. Corbett currently does street work for the Village of Barnhill and carries a Class A CDL.

OTHER ACTION

* Approved for mosquito spraying through the Tuscarawas County Health Department. It was disclosed that the TCHD has obtained an EPA grant to cover the cost of mosquito spraying so it will be at no cost to the village. Mayor Beach said she would like for the department to test standing water located near the intersection of State Rt. 39 and Barnhill Rd.

* Will purchase two solar powered blinking lights to be installed on the top of stop signs on Barnhill Road. The cost of $250 will be taken from the Street Fund.

* Approved for Police Chief Brian Anderson to move Officer Donna Patterson into a part-time patrol position left vacant by Officer Brandon Bishop, who resigned.

* Agreed to rent an auger from Frontier to assist with installing posts near the ball field.

FOR YOUR INFO

* Council is seeking bids from concrete contractors for a handicap accessible sidewalk leading into the Community Hall. Beach said she can’t submit applications for grant funding for the project without at least two bids.

* Steve Hamit, a Senior Project Manager for THRASHER Group, was in attendance, saying he had been corresponding with Fiscal Officer Kim Meek-Obed. Hamit said his company had responded to the village’s “request for qualifications” as it applies to the possible sewer system project. Meek-Obed added that requests are due July 1, at which time council will need to review all paperwork received and make a decision.

* Councilwoman Amanda Leggett said she will contact Claymont High School in an effort to get a color guard for the Memorial Day Service. Police Chief Brian Anderson had suggested that the school has a ROTC group and may be able to help.

* Meek-Obed said she is continuing to compile information for RITA before they attend a meeting of council.

* Learned that former councilmen Kenny Mann and Will Lingo have volunteered their services to patch potholes.

* Councilman Dan Beach said he would like to continue mowing and upkeep of the park for the remainder of the summer.

UP NEXT Will meet on June 12, at 6 p.m., in the Community Hall.
