Can’t increase water supply to Delhi till June 30: Manohar Lal Khattar

CHANDIGARH: Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khatar on Tuesday expressed inability to increase the water supply to Delhi till June 30 as the state was already supplying 120 cusecs over the allocated quota.
Khattar conveyed this to Union minister for water resources, river development and Ganga rejuvenation Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi, on Tuesday. He apprised Gadkari about various water-related issues Haryana had with other states and sought his help in solving them.

Gadkari assured him that the Centre would help the Haryana government in finding a solution to the water-related issues with other states. Interacting with the newspersons after the meeting, Khattar said discussion was also held with the Union minister on various issues with Rajasthan, and other issues related to Satluj-Yamuna Link (SYL) and BML Hansi-Butana branch canals.

He urged the Union government to accelerate the pace of construction works of dams namely, Renuka, Kisau and Lakhwar. With the construction of these dams, there will be more availability of water in Yamuna river.

The Chief Minister apprised Gadkari about the written communication sent to the Punjab chief minister regarding construction of dams to stop the water that is flowing to Pakistan. The Centre would take up the matter with the Punjab government, Khattar said.
