Governor’s wife plants saplings at Raj Bhawan

Chandigarh: On the occasion of World Environment Day, the wife of Haryana Governor, Rani Solanki on Tuesday gave the message of protection of environment by planting saplings of Molsiri, Hard, Baheda, Anwala, Bargad, Jamun, Amrud at the premises of Haryana Raj Bhawan here.  She also took a pledge to take care of all those plants. Solanki said, “In order to save life on earth, it is important to plant trees and to stop all those activities that lead to destruction of water, air and soil.”   She also cautioned the people about the environment degradation due to which survival would be difficult for future generation.

MCC cleans N-choe on World Environment Day

Chandigarh: To commemorate world Environment day, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh on Tuesday started cleaning of the n-choe from Bougainvillea garden, sector 3 to UT boundary, sector 53 here. The cleanliness drive to clean n-choe was kicked off by Mayor Davesh Moudgil.  Seven different teams of MCC comprising engineering wing, sanitation wing and horticulture division cleaned the weed, wild grass and malba accumulated in the banks of the choe. Davesh Moudgil said total length of the choe is 13.96 km starting from Bougainvillea garden to UT boundary sector 53 and the MCC has started this week long cleanliness drive to clean full length of the choe crossing from different sectors and parks including Leisure valley, Rose garden, Shanti Kunj, Bamboo valley, fragrance garden, palm garden and spring garden etc.

Haryana to construct six ROBs

Chandigarh: Haryana Government has decided to construct six Railways over Bridges (ROBs) through Accelerated Bridge Construction (ACB) technique. A spokesman said that the ROBs which are to constructed using ACB technique included ROB on National Highway (NH) Rewari-Narnaul  near village Palli, four lane ROB in lieu of level crossing No 31 on Delhi-Rewari section near Garhi Harsaru, ROB at Sector-19, Panchkula on Ambala- Chandigarh Railway Line, four lane ROB on Delhi-Ambala Railway line at crossing Kond-Munak-Salwan-Assandh road  in district Karnal, two lane ROB on Jakhal-Hisar Railway Line at crossing Tohana-Kullan road , Fatehabad and ROB at Hisar Surya Nagar.

Haryana CM approves budget for road work

Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal has accorded administrative approval amounting to over Rs 2.24 crore for the construction of new road from Ambala-Hisar road (Gumthala Garu) to Dera Fateh Singh approach road at Pehowa in Kurukshetra. A  spokesman said that the Chief Minister has also accorded administrative approval of Rs 2.18 crore for the construction of steel type bridge at Narwana Branch on link road from Ambala-Hisar road to Khera to Metlan in Ambala.

WUD introduces ‘Seed Bombing’

Chandigarh:Haryana’s Sonipat based World University of Design (WUD), has introduced the concept of “seed bombing”, also known as aerial reforestation - a technique of introducing vegetation to land by throwing or dropping seed balls. A spokesman said students and staff are collecting a variety of seeds from across the country which will be rolled with mud and cow dung to make little balls and introduce in a designated area in the campus. The method helps to bring down the mortality rate of trees by 50%. The Seed Bomb Jungle, WUD’s own Vanrai will be dedicated to planting seeds so that the culture of saving seeds remains alive and a positive environment towards sustainability through this activity is created, he said.

SBI celebrates World Environment Day

Chandigarh: State Bank of India has celebrated World Environment Day at its local head office, Sector – 17 here.  Rana Ashutosh Kumar Singh, chief general manager, SBI Chandigarh circle administered pledge to all the staff members for conservation of environment. After administering the pledge, Rana observed that sustainability is one of the core values of SBI. 

Snooker Championship to be held in Chd

Chandigarh: The prestigious Manisha Asian 6-Red and Team Snooker Championship will be held from June 23-29 at Hotel Park Plaza, Zirakpur. The Punjab Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA) is organizing the championship under the aegis of the Asian Confederation of Billiard Sports (ACBS) and Billiards and Snooker Federation of India (BSFI). The total prize money of the championship is around Rs 21 lakhs. The current World Snooker Champion, Pankaj Advani and current Asian Snooker Champion, Amir Sarkhosh of Iran will be seen in action here.

Art and craft workshop concludes 

Chandigarh: The workshop to teach  art and craft to the children of government school  under the  special campaign organized jointly by the Haryana Department of Arts and Cultural Affairs,  Haryana and the School Education Department, concluded at Ramgarh. A spokesperson said that this is the result of initiative taken by Art and Cultural Affairs Minister, Kavita Jain and the Additional Chief Secretary, School Education, Dheera Khandelwal.

PHD Chamber welcomes PSIEC decision

Chandigarh: Welcoming the decision of PSIEC to allow use of industrial plots in focal points for warehousing, skill development activities and other allied services, RS Sachdeva, chairman, Punjab Committee, PHD Chamber said that we are happy to note that with this decision, the Government has fulfilled the long pending demand of PHD chamber. This move will allow optimum & profitable use of industrial plots.
