A DeLand man was arrested Sunday after police said he stabbed another man in the neck during an argument at a laundromat.
Terrence Calkins, 51, was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon after stabbing Donald Frenier, 50, of DeLand, in the neck outside the Boulevard Laundry at 1341 North Woodland Blvd., said city of DeLand spokesman Chris Graham.
Preliminary reports indicate that Calkins and Frenier were washing clothes at the laundromat at 1:29 p.m. when a verbal altercation broke out. It is not known what sparked the confrontation of whether the men knew each other before the incident, Graham said.
Calkins was at the scene when police arrived and was taken into custody. Graham said.
Frenier was taken to Florida Hospital DeLand before being transferred to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach where he is in critical but stable condition, investigators said.
The investigation is ongoing and more information will be released as it becomes available, Graham said.
