NAGPUR: The Nagpur bench of
Bombay high court asked the Union information and broadcasting ministry and Press Council of India on Wednesday to issue advisories to the media to not use the word
dalit in their reports.
A division bench comprising justices Bhushan Dharmadhikari and Zaka Haq also asked respondents to implement Union social welfare ministry's circular of March 15, which suggested use of words 'scheduled caste' and 'scheduled tribes' instead of 'dalit'. The government said that it would issue a formal notification based on the Union ministry's circular within four weeks.
