HYDERABAD: Answer sheets were destroyed when a fire broke out in the degree spot valuation centre in
Osmania University in the early hours of Tuesday. Police said the fire could have been triggered by an electric short-circuit inside the hall.
By the time the fire was doused, a few sets of
BSc answer sheets were reduced to ashes. The papers were stored in the valuation centre behind men's hostels on the campus. The
OU authorities constituted a committee to enquire into the circumstances that led to the fire.
The fire occurred at around 6am. Fire officials rushed and put out the blaze in 15 minutes, thereby averting a major fire. "BSc answer sheets were destroyed. A security guard saw the smoke early in the morning and alerted the fire control room. Before it could spread, the fire was brought under control. We are suspecting the fire was caused by short-circuit inside the valuation room," said Chandra Shekhar, station fire officer.
The committee will submit a report in two days and also assess the extent of damage caused by the fire. Later, the OU officials lodged a complaint at the varsity police station.
