GURUGRAM: A goods and services tax (GST) superintendent and his son, who is a GST inspector in Ahmedabad, were allegedly thrashed by five youths in the city on Monday after the duo refused to hand over their golden retriever to them.
According to police, around 9.30pm on Monday, GST superintendent RS Mishra (49), along with his son (27) and daughter (21), was returning to his home in Sector 46 in a Honda Amaze after dropping a relative at Gurugram railway station.

Mishra said that five youths in a Hyundai Eon car spotted his pet dog, a golden retriever, in his car near the New Colony red light on the Railway Road.

The youths demanded that they hand over the dog and on being refused, started abusing them. After the traffic light turned green, Mishra started driving away but the youths chased them.

Mishra said, “I tried to ignore them. My daughter was driving the car but I took the driver’s seat and started to speed towards home but they chased us for five kilometres, and near Subhash Chowk, they stopped their car after overtaking us. When I got out of the car, they started thrashing me. My son tried to help but they also thrashed him while asking for the dog. Only when locals started gathering at the spot did the accused flee in their car in the direction of the Huda City Centre metro station. I called the cops and a team reached the spot soon.”

Mishra has received injuries in his face and eyes. He said that this was the second incident on the city’s roads which made him feel that he was in danger. A year ago, some youths had threatened him with consequences after ramming their car into his.

“I work at the GST audit office located near Medanta and my son, who works in Ahmedabad, is now home on vacation. I showed the youths my office identity card but they were not even bothered. It was only when we screamed for help and people started gathering that they fled. I want strict action against them,” he told TOI.

An FIR was registered against the five youths under sections 323 (causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint), 506 (criminal intimidation), 34 (common intention) of IPC at the Sadar police station on Tuesday.

The family managed to note down the registration number of the accused’s car.

Police said they would identify and arrest the accused soon. “We have the registration number of the car and are trying to trace the car owner first,” said inspector Arjun Dhundhara, SHO, Sadar police station.
