CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu government on Wednesday announced Rs 7 lakh as relief to the family of MBBS aspirant S Pradeepa who committed suicide on Monday after failing to clear NEET.
The money would be given to the family from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund.

Announcing this in the assembly, chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami said, “I condole the death of Pradeepa and advise all students to avoid such extreme steps. The present government functioning under Amma (late chief minister J Jayalalithaa) is concerned about students and their development."

Leader of the opposition M K Stalin, who had raised the issue in the assembly earlier, said, "I visited the house of Pradeepa in Villupuram district. Her brother is doing third year engineering and her sister is an MCA student. Her parents are daily wage earners."

The DMK working president wanted the government to provide a job to a family member of Pradeepa.
